  Most JW's are Concerned with Position/Appearance - Not Serving God

  being raised in the jehovah's witnesses for 44 years ( exited 7 years ago ) - i observed many different variables that made each witness tick or operate.

  but one of the most common variables was witnesses wanting to excel in progressing to positions becoming elders, ministerial servants, or pioneers because then and only then would they be looked at as allegedly " spiritual " or closer to jehovah.

  but i learned as years went by that having a " position " in the congregation didn't make a person anymore " spiritual " or closer to god than witnesses who were not in appointed positions.. myself- having been appointed a ministerial servant at the tender baby age of 20 yrs.

  I always felt like a loser because I was 19 when I was baptized. I was sad that day too because no one was there to congratulate me afterwards because they had already "advanced" to one of those "special" meetings during the lunch break. I felt so much pressure to get baptized. People who say it's "your choice" are in denial of the fact that when you know nothing else in life but that that is expected of you or else you'll be ostrasized, it's not really a choice.

  God it feels good just to express the truth of how I felt back then :0) I love freedom.

  Also, recently when my Mother didn't introduce me to my new step sister and her husband when they flew in for her wedding, it was because "he used to be a member of the writing comittee. What was I supposed to do?"

  Finally finding my way out...

  well, its been about 2 1/2 years and have slowly done less and less.

  i've been to about 30 minutes of a meeting in the last month and a half where i stayed out back and with my daughter.. i've been looking for the right timing to leave but had decided i will go anyways by the time my daughter is about 1 years old.

  but, it just so happens that my some members of my family including and mostly my parents have actually given me a good enough of an excuse to get out.. they have broken to many rules.

  Congrats!!! I have a 5 month old and despite my Mothers attempts to win me back by saying I better come back for my daughters sake I felt in my heart that for my daughters sake, the best thing I could do was to not return to the witnesses. It's been over a year since I made my decision to never go back and I feel sanity more and more every day. I was raised a dub so it's the most amazing experience. I feel GOOD!! You will too. Just keep following what you feel in your heart is right.

  It was described to me once as a tube of toothpaste. Once it's been squeezed out, it's very hard to put it all back in.

  it's been quite sometime... i've had a baby and been moving around for months because of my husbands job (14 flights since the baby was born) and now that i have time to breathe, i need you again.. my mother and i have been on the rocks for years!

  Much of the information in that link describes my Mother and my interactions with her. Also, me a little... I'm working on changing those things

  Loz- I've thought about that. I guess I'm happy my first baby is so young she wont remember. It's not just about being vindictive. It's a serious matter when you know her grandma would feel like its her responsibility to teach her "the truth" which would ultimately result in my own daughter shunning me. It's hitting me that it may never get better. She may actually die of old age still shunning me. I have to accept that.

  Changeling-You are right about my Mother not attending my wedding or coming to pick a dress with me. However she's known my husband since we were in Jr. High and a week before he proposed she said to him "so when are you going to marry my daughter?". When she got engaged she had the nerve to ask me to look online and send her links of dresses that she might like. Thats when I reminded her of how she acted when I was dresss shopping. I asked her if I was even invited to hers and at first she said no, then, yes, then, "I don't want something sad (me) at my wedding", then, "nevermind, sorry, I want you to be there and you're ALLOWED to sit with the family". Shes so crazy.

  he's god he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone!

  why have the billions that have lived on this earth had to suffer for what two people did in eden?.

  Mad Sweeney, It bothers me how so many JW's feel almost unaccountable for their treatment of the planet. It's like, "we'll clean it up during the thousand year reign". That was one of the biggest changes and eye openers for me. I started reading about how even where our food comes from and how it's grown effects the health of our planet and other people. I felt like I had a responsibilty to adjust some things. I didn't want to be knowingly destroying the earth. When I was talking to my mother (active JW) about the adjustments I was making she acted like it was a lost cause. Afterall, the end is coming tomorow..

  Thank you changeling. You are right. I need to sort of move away from all of that and focus on my family.

  I think I'll avoid any situations like this in the future.
